So here we were thinking, since it’s the New Year and 2012 being the (alleged) end of the world, what’s the latest social media hu-ha to talk about? But really, enough with the researching and preaching of what’s next, what’s new, what’s shiny, and what’s not.

We thought we’d just drop a little sound of music into your digital life.

No really.

Have you heard about 8tracks? Yes? No? Well, for those who haven’t, think of it as an online public playlist. Just key in a tag you fancy (pop, rock, 90s, Christmas…etc) and see what 8tracks has for you.

Created by the digital public who love music from all corners of the world, this is a great site to listen to. Oh, and the best part? It’s legal.

Of course, since it’s legal, there are a few terms and conditions stuck to it such as:

• Tracks can only be skipped twice in an hour
• You cannot browse through the playlist
• You cannot rewind/forward a song

But really, at the rate people are constantly making playlists, you’re bound to hear your favourite tune a couple of times.

Facebook has given into the pressure of making it customisable.

Well to a certain degree that is.

Introducing ‘Facebook Timeline’. If you’re one who loves sharing who you are, what you did, where you’re from (nobody dare sing ‘As Long As You Love Me’) and just telling the whole world more, then you’re definitely going to have a ball with this upcoming feature from Facebook.

As users begin gearing up for the new look and features, designers began working out a couple of smart designs.
(Yep, we chose this design to be featured for the obvious Steve Jobs reference. R.I.P, Steve)

From the moment you visit your profile page, visitors will get a full view of your cover photo or a video. So you could either impress them with something that’s totally mind-blowing or something that represents you. Users then scroll down for your stories such as your status updates, photos, activities, and finally the apps you chose.

Zuckerberg has promised users that you can choose what you want featured. From photographs to updates and activities whether old or new. One of the main attractions of Timeline (other than your cover photo/video) is the ability for your to feature a story using your photographs. Be it your baby photos all the way to your grown up self now or events leading up to your wedding, you can upload, arrange, and show the world your very own Timeline.

Think of it as a magazine and you’ve got the power to edit the content to your heart’s desire.

With the new Facebook launched just weeks ago, brands saw a seismic drop in their insight graphs with the way posts and updates are delivered to users. However, with Timeline, brands can definitely use it to their advantage and give a whole new user experience for Facebook users. In fact, it’s going to be a whole lot more social on this popular social network (sorry, couldn’t resist that pun).

Well, don’t get all excited and hyped up just yet (like we are), but ‘Facebook Timeline’ is facing a smidge of a legal issue and Mr Zuckerberg is holding on releasing this baby. In the meantime, play around with this new toy here.

Seeing as it is the Ramadan month, BPC decided to treat us and our special guest, Haqem, our beloved flash designer plus our two new interns to a delicious Buka Puasa buffet dinner at Dorsett Regency, downtown KL.

The journey down to KL was filled with traffic, but that didn’t stop us from catching up with one another.We had a good time just laughing and chatting away amidst the horning, long queue in traffic and crossing traffic lights after traffic lights, but in a blink of an eye, we reached Dorsett earlier than expected for the dinner.

Upon entering we found ourselves a nice table in front of the stage and got ourselves. We were soon overwhelmed by the smell of delicious roasted lamb, lamb satay, nasi dagang, beef rendang, fresh oysters and so much more. Let’s not forget the desserts, of which there was a variety to choose from such as mango puddings, cheese cakes, traditional kuih Melayu and so much more piled up next to a flowing mountain of chocolate, buckets of ice cream and D.I.Y ABC’s.

Since we were early, we grabbed our portion and waited patiently for Buka Puasa as a sign of respect for our Muslim friends but before we even knew it, it was BUKA PUASA TIME! The delicious meal did not disappoint and soon some of us were going back for seconds and thirds before hitting the desserts; you know what they say, “there’s always room for dessert!”

After all the fun, food, company and entertainment with each other, we took our leave from the Buka Puasa buffet dinner with stuffed bellies and a merry heart!
